Re: What the fluff?
Safety is another good argument for using fluff. Especially if you have hit yourself with a tournament fly. I believe Allan Lahi proposed fluff for the distance events, but it was rejected by the ICSF.

Re: Is this fly casting?
Hi Phil, I think we covered this topic a few times, e.g. search for "Zoran czech nymphing" and you'll find some entertaining threads. Fly fishing without a fly line is somewhat controversial. I remember an argument between GF and one czech nymph guy. A 2,5mm tungsten bead nymph is easy to ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi Vince, that's a cast within the vertical plane. I'd teach this first with a side cast and open stance, of course I'd prefer that people are able to observe their own backcast independent from the coach. Once they have learned this, the plane is moved up to the vertical. BTW the plane is not const...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John, see for instance [1], page 66, table 3, figures for competition casts (trout distance/sea trout distance). Peak speed rod ~7m/s (translation), ~15rad/s (rotation), haul ~10m/s You would need to multiply the rad/s for rotation with the effective lever length, I'd guestimate something around ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi Mark, I think this was rather a poor argument from Paul, of course you need to learn loop control first. That's the same for commercial instruction and casting sport. Unfortunately often teached with the clock face, I'd favor an open stance, side cast first, so that you can observe the backcast y...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Yep Rickard
Well I've heard these silly arguments often enough, casting sport is not like fishing blah, blah .. mostly by people not involved into the sport.
Actually before I'd learn a zillion of presentation casts (and maybe performing them mediocre) I'd try too be good @ the basic overhead cast.

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John, Might be off-topic here, That's very true, the rod is a flexible lever and we only throw the line, although on occasions I have thrown the rod as well. However the direct contact we have is with the rod only. We create movement in the body that is transferred to the rod through the ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John, exactly, we cast the line, not the rod. That's unlike other sports you have mentioned, a flexible level between you and the "projectile". Principles apply only partially, mechanics is quite different IMHO (as Merlin has pointed out in a different thread). Greetings, Torsten Hi Joh...
