Re: Causes of tailing loops

Not sure it has to go up to mske a tail, Thanks Lasse and Paul - this is the essence of my question. I personally think it does almost certainly have to go both down and up. But I am not certain if I am correct (if I were I would probably not have posed the question on this forum). I think the impo...

Re: Causes of tailing loops

May I then ask - is it possible to cast a tailing loop without, at some point during the casting stroke, having a "concave" path of the rod tip (by concave I mean the rod tip dropping below the "straight line" and then raising up again)? I rather foresaw some discussion on my ch...

Re: Using Video while teaching

For many years I have used Coach's Eye (on my iPad) for casting lessons, particularly for the slo mo and analysis aspects of casting. Unfortunately it has come to an end (and although it is supposed to continue until September for existing subscribers I have already lost my access). Hudl Technique a...

Re: Handling Sailfish

I did have an eat from a free-swimmer but that’s another story. IMHO one eat from a free swimmer is worth any number of teased up fish. I have not been there for a few years now but both Dominic and Ian who did the fly guiding at the time were good to the fish and on two occasions we “res...

Re: Handling Sailfish

Agree Peter - we used to see a good number at Rompin struggling on the surface :(. I have not noticed this elsewhere, but it may also be happening and not be seen. The relative numbers caught at Rompin would be out of proportion, plus the often glassy Rompin water that you mention makes it pretty ea...

Re: Handling Sailfish

Agreed Paul. I do still have a reservation in the back of my mind that catch and release generally might not be too good for the fish (but enough on that for the present).
More important - did you catch fish?
Great restaurant in Rompin (if I could only remember its name :( ).

Re: Handling Sailfish

I do have a picture with one on my lap Paul, but feel embarrassed every time I look at it. :( Fortunately as Gary notes they have a "handle" :D to hang onto while in the water alongside the boat and I agree keep them there - they are generally not too big as billfish (and even tarpon) go. ...
