Re: sparse weighted fly short cast
Phil, I can imagine a scenario where a cast like that is required. :D A great way to practice getting the required perfect tracking is on a wood floor of a basketball court, although a parking lot will work but is harder on the fly line. You gotta get the line directly under the rod tip, and in a ve...

Re: Mental Practice
Something I find rather interesting in these dialogues is that they often say “now I understand what you meant six months ago” This was me with casting books, I didn’t understand them until I had learnt the skill. I cannot count the times I have said to myself... "So that is what those words I...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
I was beginning to think it was just me. :( It’s definitely not just you 🙂 Is any of it useful Gary ? Useful? Definitely. But also quite sobering. :( At least when I consider how I have been teaching fly casting for more than the last 20 years. I am, or was, definitely old school. That is changing ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
I doubt it John. :) If there is confusion it comes from two sources. One is that some of the concepts and terminology being used are still largely unfamiliar to the casting instructor community Phew! I was beginning to think it was just me. :( Ya'll would not believe how much stuff I've downloaded ...

Re: OK... Rod configuration effect on the line?
Paul, Curiously, this past weekend I attended a small gathering and someone put one of the new Sage Core8 Salt (or whatever) models into my hand. The group was all gushing about how great it was, and how expensive it was, and how anyone could be a great caster if they could afford the now higher tha...

Re: OK... Rod configuration effect on the line?
OK...
I see that I am failing to ask the question clearly.
I am not saying that tip path and line layout are not important. In fact, I believe that every current stroke is heavily dependent on the quality of the previous one.
I'll try to clarify my question and try again later.

FFi MCI test: comments and suggestions
Folks, The FFi is reaching out for comments or suggestions on the current MCI test. A revision is apparently in the works, and they are looking for feedback, both positive and negative, so they can improve it. I think they are only polling current assessors and MCIs, but I may be wrong. But, if you ...

Re: OK... Rod configuration effect on the line?
I’m pretty sure the lack of feedback I get from the rod is what causes me to look especially at my BC. The signal to look is when I don’t feel anything in my hand. Vinny, Out of curiosity... the feedback you are "looking" for - are you looking for it primarily in your rod hand, or in your...

Re: OK... Rod configuration effect on the line?
Hi Paul, Yes of course. It’s not very much fun using a poker, but absolutely. I think they all come down to tip path, line configuration at the beginning of the stroke, and perhaps a little bit of loop morphing. OK... but lets ignore morphing for a second - I'm only thinking about short / fishing le...

Can’t you do them all with a rigid rod?
Cheers, Paul
Can you?
