Re: Power pro braid fails

Lou, Most of my leaders for fishing here in South Florida are made from Ande mono. It is relatively inexpensive, comes in 1/4# spools (a lifetime supply) and has a nice amount of stiffnes. If you can find the "Ghost" variety, I think it is even better, since it seems to be the regular stuf...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Too easily we can get stuck in a rut. Trying to make small changes to an existing stroke that don’t stick. Developing an entirely new but related (almost all casts are related) stroke is the better way I think. But it’s not the obvious thing to do! Cheers, Paul Paul, Very much enjoyed this FP. Over...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod

Vinny, Out of curiosity... what is a NFC rod? No Friggin Clue? I'm unsure about different lines in the wind. I know I often pray to just straighten everything out when casting into the wind, so I don't shoot much, if any. So I would guess the head length should about match how long you are commonly ...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod

Vinny, If you are placing your fly into the roots and under the mangrove branches at 75' my hat is off to you! :pirate: To answer your question: I don't think the rod cares. I will tell you this... I used to fish with the longer belly lines, and I still do in some situations but not when painting ma...

Re: line lubricants vs

I commonly wipe down my rods with 303, but only with the rag that hangs on the bottle. I've never had a problem with the epoxy flaking off... but I don't spray it directly on the rod. Now... if you really want to reduce the friction from the rod blank - there is a product called "MudSlinger&quo...

Re: line lubricants vs

If y'all want to change up the chemistry a bit, maybe try 303 brand "Aerospace Protectant". It is sold in most marina stores and is billed as a sunscreen for boats / rec vehicles. It is polyurethane based, not silicone, and as such it is not so much a lube that sits on the surface but a cl...

Re: Unproven

I don't know about using socks to attract fish, but there is a very real phenomenon with socks in the Everglades. When in camp, if you hang your dirty socks on a limb a short distance downwind from where you are sitting, you will greatly decrease the number of mosquitoes that bother you. The socks d...

Re: Power pro braid fails

If the line got damaged somehow while still on the original spool, then there will be a weak section at the same point on every rotation... so at repeating distances equal to the diameter of the spool.

Maybe that's what going on? :upside:

Re: photos 2024

Paul, I am shocked to see that you have stooped to using electronics! :( The other day I was fed a suggestion on YouTube about "FFS". Thinks I - What does FFS have to do with fly fishing? FFS has always been a shorthand for a statement of incredulity... at least that is what I thought? Tur...

Paul,

Be sure to stock up on lots of food before you sail off into the salt!
:)
