Using a 10wt rod in a "5wt" competition, with a fly line that is >2X the head length of a standard line... is OK... but using a colored leader is silly? :upside:

New PB - wind knot

Folks, I commonly find wind knots in or within an inch of the fluff. And, of course, after a few days of casting, there will be the occasional one in the tippet section. I have actually, a few times, managed to tie some in the front taper of the fly line. I have tried to be able to demonstrate doing...

Of course.

I came across them years back at a flyshop in NC.

I solidified my suspicion that nymph anglers know no shame!

Re: What the fluff?

I thought in accuracy events you had to use a specific fly, or even one supplied by the event, so that everyone had the same? But, for distance you are allowed to use anything? Like - can you tie the material onto a cut off hook for some weight? (A mini version of a Sedotti Slammer?) ..................

What the fluff?

I'm putting this in here as its the only place I found any discussion on "fluff". So... what is the deal? Is it regulated in any way when used in competition circumstances? And, other than for visibility, are there other reasons for it? I thought I was using it to keep from cracking the wh...

Re: polyurethane line cleaning

I use a product called "303 protectant". It is common in most marine stores and one bottle will last a lifetime if all you do is use it on flylines. (It is also very good on canoe hulls, especially if they are left outside in the sun. It is billed as a sunscreen for boats.) It is PU based,...

Sexyloops Private messages question

Folks,

How do you get messages that you have created to get out of the "Outbox" and into "Sent Messages"?

My stuff seems to get stuck there and not get "delivered". :(

Thanks!

Re: streamer drag design

Paul, I purchased the ones I have tied some flies with. I think the package actually said "fly lips" or something similar. They are tough to adjust, and twist when you cast or strip 'em too fast even after getting the fly to swim right. But... they can be fished downstream by feeding and h...

Re: streamer drag design

Vincente, How large of a streamer, and how deep do you want it to swim? In a current? How long are you willing to wait for it to sink? Generally, I find that using all synthetic materials, tying sparse so they don't trap air, and wrapping lead wire behind the hook eye will get a 5" saltwater st...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

If we can choose body position and alignment that is beneficial then I think we should teach it. Often I don’t have this opportunity with a 1-2 second shot. Vince doesn’t always have this either with his challenge of backcasting into a gap… but these are exceptional circumstances. Normally we can c...
