There is no physical strap. An imposed mental one perhaps. You must have seen it, many times!!Stoatstail50 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 9:45 amIt depends
If it works, do you change it?
I’d take the strap off if that’s what you mean.

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
They’ve been told that the “proper way” to cast is not to use any wrist. Dont think this is uncommon. Many US instructors are being told this and consequently some are teaching it. Now the rod is an extension of the forearm.
If it works, do you change it?

No. What about if he’s casting like that but without the duck tape? It depends. Who is this person?, what can he do already?, what is he trying to improve? Is he freezing? Why does he believe he can’t control his wrist…what blithering idiot advised him to put a strap or tape on his arm ? can he swi...

Have caught up!
Let’s take a 40’ cast then. No obstructions. Our caster has duck taped his rod butt to his forearm because he couldn’t afford the strap.
His cast goes 40’. Are we cool with this? (He’s not a competition caster)
Cheers, Paul

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
I believe we have clear water between the objectives of casting competitors and angling students even for data gathering purposes. Competition casters are focused on absolute performance, I’m an angling student focussed on absolute performance :D To be honest I don’t really see the separation you s...

Re: sparse weighted fly short cast
I think there is another technical term - one for the difference between a horizontal cast with the loop vertically above the rod leg, and a similar cast with an inverted loop. I believe the term is "plop"? :D Indeed if the most gentle presentation is required then causing the fly to kick...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
As I understand it, the body core is central to the kinetic chains in sports because it enables load transfers to and from the limbs. Our ability to self organise means that we develop compensatory patterns in the kinetic chain if the chain is disrupted that can lead to high loads on distal parts, ...
