Re: Focus Points
Physics equations help quantify casting, but understanding the concepts underlying the equations is enough to predict the outcome of a novel action on your part. Equations of physics are useless for most of us. Practical applications of physics have teaching and learning outcomes. Exactly. But you ...

Re: The practical side of considering loops as waves: Teaching and Self Improvement
Have been watching this thread and the one in the physics sub forum. Don't post there and won't get into a physics argument here in the Teaching forum but something needs to be said about where I stand to make sense of what I'm about to say. My position on the physics of it is that I'm more interest...

Fly Casting Practice
Just to let you folks know that I’ve added a main course sized piece on fly casting practice to the menu on my casting site. http://thecuriousflycaster.com/fly-casting-practice/ I have a thing for what (applied) science can add to casting and the result has been a series – Physics (mechanics) => Bio...

Re: Fly line life
A question about silicone: is there a product which doesn’t cost several £/€ for a small bottle? Hi Andrew Haven't tried the personal lubricant but did find high grade silicone oil (went for higher viscosity version) that is sold as treadmill lubricant on eBay. Avoid the stuff with hydrocarbon (pet...

Re: Covered topics /how it works
Thus that statement probably made perfect sense to them, but it not so obvious what you meant to someone who is familiar with Newton's formulation of his second law. I.e. F=dp/dt not the F=ma version that is generally given in high school physics. A perfectly exquisite of example of so many things,...

Re: Wading boots by shoe companies
The only thing I dont like about a trailrunning-shoe as a wadingboot is that it is low and hence that the gravelguards does not work. There are, however, trailrunning-shoes made for running in the winter that are a bit higher. Hi Thomas Yes we are on the same page. It's a long story I won't bore pe...

Re: Wading boots by shoe companies
Different strokes for different folks. :) I hate wading boots with a lot of ankle-support and stiff soles. I agree Thomas. Here in Oz, last time I bothered looking, there were hikers of the old school with heavy stiff boots and new school hikers wearing runners, literally or effectively. Not intere...

Re: Reel orientation
I think I now actually prefer to cast with the reel rotated out. Finishing the stroke with wrist rotation feels much more natural and as if the rod is pivoting around a central point in my hand. Has anyone else played with this? Hi Gary Would guess that your grip is normally thumb on top? Rotation ...
