Overline your fast rod

Hi Michael First of, rodbend has little to do with it, the rod isn't a very effective spring, so what we're looking at is the ability to accelerate the line in as straight as possible line. And then not mess things up after that. That's one of the reasons really soft rods aren't the choice for most...

Overline your fast rod

In my view a lot of people think they need a fast rod, (or are told they need a fast rod) but they don't know how to bend a rod, and they don't know how to vary their casting arc to deal with that bend. If the rod doesn't bend you get a domed tip path and a wider loop and no matter what they do, (u...

Overline your fast rod

Hi Mathias Have a look at vimeo, on my soft and stiff clips, I hazard a guess that those are the ones Paul means :) Same line on a really soft and a really stiff rod cast at the same time, and the bend in the rods aren't that different. Take a ping pong ball and a golfball and make a shitty throw, ...

Overline your fast rod

Hi Paul, I think the lack of feel comes from trying to cast a line that isn't straight. Too much slack. Add creep to that and you will not feel the line. Personally I think it is more difficult to cast fast with a slow rod. I have no problem casting slow with a fast one. There is the timing issue of...

Overline your fast rod

A known fact and a common tip amongst flyfishers is that a modern, fast flyrod needs a heavier line to load properly. Now I know that it is neither a fact nor a great tip but none the less, I read it all the time, and I think it is an interesting topic and something I have given some thought to. I c...

MCI test questions

Hi Windknotz88, I am basically in the same situation as you, with the exception that I haven't signed up for the test yet. I sort of plan to do it next year but nothing is decided. Anyway, I have from time to time shared your frustration. Seemingly there is no end to the scope of knowledge you need....

Sea Trout in Northern Europe - help...

There is good fishing for searun brown trout all along the Swedish coast, but season is coming to an end in several places. Where are you located? That would make it easier to give more specific advice :) As Thomas says, not many patterns are needed, and it's mostly about finding the fish, unless y...

Guiding and FC instruction

I have to teach casting while fishing. No one can make the shots when they first come here. I couldn't either! And because no one to my knowledge has really set about trying to catch free rising snakehead - and snakehead is why people come - the first trip is very much a casting lesson. Snakehead f...

Beginning of season

We didn't have much of a winter where I live but spring is slow in coming. The nights are cold, the mornings are frosty and day temperature is seldom over 8-10 C. I suppose you are more interested in the climate at the Isles? ;)

Cheers, Massew
