Re: The evolution of Catch and Release
Hi guys, in Germany C&R is prohibited by law, so angling equals catching fish for eating it and not for the sheer fun of it. However I see many anglers apply C&R because a) they do care about fish populations, which are not really on the rise and b) they do like the angling but not the fish ...

Re: The New Semi Automatic Fly Reels
I have never seen someone fish such a reel before, guess the market is rather small. However I do see some situations where it might be helpful, however that might be the time the automatic retrieve fails... A friend gave me an old "antique" DAM automatic reel that is a real joke - you mig...

Re: Lockdowns where you are
Germany had a gentle lockdown, you were allowed to go shopping, fishing (at least where I live) and the like, except most shops where closed and you had to keep a distance to other people while being outside, plus practice social distancing to stop spreading the stuff. I started wearing simple face ...

Re: Essential Level Challenge
I really like this challenge, it is a good set for casting practice - seems equal to some instructor exams, without the theory and teaching part of course. As an intermediate beginner the major issue is doing it with good form, something only an instructor can evaluate. As most of the instructors I ...

Re: Lockdown Fitness
Hi Paul, I guess you already have a nice setup on the battleship, but something everyone seems to love are rings and parallettes - rings make pullups and the like more difficult, as they add a wobbly complexity to the movement. A nice addon for the dumbell training might be a kettlebell, it seems to...

Re: Outdoor practice.....
Nice work, Michael! Did not get a single word, but guess it is something about casting. Hard work, did not hear the "C-word" too often, meaning you've been living abroad for too long! :p Forwarded the video to some polish-speaking fishing friends... first reaction was a friendly "żółw...

Re: Gloss vs. Matte finish on rods.
Any suggestions on making your rod less shiny with minimal effort or without losing the manufacturers warranty? Paul mentioned matte varnish or a metal brush - but maybe there are other ways to achieve the same effect. And of course how to revert this in case of resale or rod repairs. Cheers, Christ...

Re: [Fuck] Lock down days!
I already knew about that, after having read the chinese bus study https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3074351/coronavirus-can-travel-twice-far-official-safe-distance-and-stay . However the human body should be able to handle exposition - at least a short interval, such as when visiting ...

Re: Unintended Catches
I generally catch everything I am not intending to catch... on seatrout mission I caught a starfish and a lumpfish. My first trout was a grayling, followed by a motherless minnow and every odd micro-fish to be found in trout streams. On chub mission I caught pike, perch and and eel - plus a bat and ...

Re: [Fuck] Lock down days!
Lockdown sucks, but if it helps stopping the disease I'm ok with that. At the moment there is one weekly visit to the supermarket, wearing face mask and avoiding eye contact (it feels like that) while walking through an abandoned city. Feels like being in the movie "Omega Man" (or for the ...
