Re: Unintended Catches

I have hooked:
Pelicans (lots), Terns, Seagulls, Cormorants, Turtles, Sting Rays, Eagle rays, Manta rays, Cayman, Crocs, Alligators, Crabs, all sorts of fish that took my fly in front of the fish I was trying to catch.

Re: Tippet breaking-tropical hot saltwater.

This might sound rather obvious but do you test your knots before you cast. What I mean is giving the leader a seriously hard tug just after you tie the knot. I have found that quite often the line breaks for no apparent reason. When the line does not break then you can be pretty sure that it will n...

Re: safety

Interesting topic, I have fished in many different locations around the world and the only place I can remember where I had to wear a life jacket was fishing from one particular lodge in Alaska. Landing nets for flats fishing

Hi Flavio One problem with bonefish, particularly the smaller ones is that if they are not tired they jump about like crazy when you try to hold them to unhook them. The smaller fish can be brought in quite easily but are then quite difficult to handle. The larger ones are pretty tired when they com...

Sorry my terminology is not quite correct. OK some people including the IGFA use 16-20lb leaders. What I was reffering to was the tippet. You construct a leader from 16 or 20 lb Hard Mason with a bimini twist at each end. One end is attached to the fly line and the other to the tippet or Bite Tippet...

Hi Paul I am quite well but not fishing enough. The reason why heavy leaders are used on tarpon has nothing to do with breaking strain. It is the abrasiveness of the tarpons mouth that is the problem. They have mouths like sand paper and will eventually wear through any sort of line. So a shorter fi...
