Re: Power pro braid fails

. But, any recommendations for a saltwater braid substitute? I assume we are talking about backing braid, rather than making leaders with it … I am a huge fan of the hollow gel-spun braid used by the big game fishermen. When it’s used as it should be, by splicing loops and joins, it’s possible to m...

Re: Power pro braid fails

Paul I'm with you on fluro...or I used to be. I tested the opacity of different fluorocarbon lines in my swimming pool and came to the same conclusion. I'm recently trying fluro, I have hard mono,, which I tried. But come back to buying large spools of nylon, I measure my lines too. Most of the fly ...

Re: Power pro braid fails

I just tested with a Bimini, pulled on just the braid.. Loop and single running line..DID NOT fail. Tied a double surgeons loop pulled on just the loop and Single running line...DID NOT fail! Tested a second time with double surgeons knot..did not fail. So, was it possible that a LONG length of the ...

Re: Power pro braid fails

20lb braid to 20lb nylon, using the FG knot. I gave up creating a loop and used just the single running line. The other two reels, 40lb braid, Bimini to 20lb nylon with FG knot. Both reels tied the same...no issues with the braid snapping. The braid fails just on the one spool with the double surgeo...

Re: Power pro braid fails

I plan on pulling some power pro braid off of a couple reels later today and tie the double surgeons knot. Then see if the line fails, if it doesn't then, the line that was failing might have suffered some sort of damage. One other thing, the reel was spooled at a trusted local retail tackle shop. W...

Re: Power pro braid fails

Paul I would use a double surgeons knot to create my loop. Once I set the knot I'd test it by pulling on the loop and single running line. The braid would snap usually 6-8 in(20cm) above the knot. I did not tie the knot at that location and pull it down creating any heat. I did use a Bimini, the lin...

Power pro braid fails

So, I experienced something odd! Let me explain, two non fly fishing friends will be joining me to fish. I rigged spinning rods for them. I looped the power braid line using a double surgeons knot, then I pulled the looped braid and the single running line...each time the braid would snap under tens...

Father Time & fly rod choice

Greetings

As we all get older, I'm curious do we elect to use higher weight rods to compensate for any loss in physical strength we experience? For instance, moving up to a 12wt instead of the 11wt.
