Re: Pulling a rabbit out of a... mailbox

Another thought on practice: I should probably start out at a shorter distance and start working out from there.

Re: Pulling a rabbit out of a... mailbox

Yes, 70 total--so the carry is probably doable even with a short headed line. They definitely don't provide a distance line! The box is a little less than 4 feet off the ground (42" - 46" to the top of the mailbox is the United States Postal Service standard) and 8 inches wide, 11.5 inches tall, and...

Re: Pulling a rabbit out of a... mailbox

Sounds like a fun event. As I was reading I was thinking a tight loop. As you would want any angular sweep as a fly unfolds with a big loop. Maybe also you would want have to have the top leg of the loop lined up with the bottom floor of the mail box. I wonder if kneeling would help this? Kneeling ...

Re: Squeezing fish for the pic

Here's a paper that has vastly different results when it comes to release mortality of bonefish. Bonefish Tarpon Trust has a guide to handling bonefish that seems to be based on their extensive research. Wet hands and no more than 15 seconds out of the water are recommended. Bonefish do have a very ...

Pulling a rabbit out of a... mailbox

Every year my favorite fishing lodge in Michigan hosts the Midnight Derby . It's a night fishing/mousing tournament that is more of a party than a tournament, though the goal is to catch and release a monster on the single fly that you've selected for the night. It's a ton of fun, and the party aspe...

Re: HT Relook

American here. Please keep the sexy loop in the Sexyloops logo. I also like the name. There is a very popular rod called the Asquith, so... if “ass queef” doesn’t scare off people who don’t want a rod with a “gay” name, then I don’t think hot torpedo will either. I think a freshening of the design i...

Landing nets for flats fishing

I have never seen anyone use a net to land bonefish. I have seen guides use nets for redfish, permit, snook but never for bones. I've had a few guides use nets on bonefish. One was in the Bahamas a long time ago. The other was last year, but it was a very, very large bonefish. He usually doesn't bo...

Cheers, Paul
The flies had never been fished before. No evidence of corrosion when inspected.

Never tried dropping a loop; is this fast water? With trout I don’t strike but I rarely give slack. Are you swinging or teasing them?l Swinging in fast water. The idea is that it allows the fish to take the fly and go back down--or something like that. I haven't tangled with enough steelhead to tes...

Fly tying preparations for Bahamas

That’s interesting that they both break. How did it feel? 1-2 or 1? Cheers, Paul I think I understand the question... the line just went limp both times. No 1-2, just 1. I assumed it was a broken tippet, and then reeled in a fraction of a fly. Both fish were over 100 lbs and had run relatively far ...
