another vote for Martin's minnow. Also balanced leeches can be fantastic fished slightly over depth on an indicator so you can vertically hop them off the lake bed.

Like Lars, I tie at the front and catch it with the rib-just wind the rib as though there was no hackle and you'll not trap too many fibers. I only fold hackles at the head/shoulder of the fly and do that by putting my thumb and first 2 fingers togetherand pass them back allowing the hook eye to go ...

It might be a weird question, but why remove it? :D I would have thought these flies would possess excellent floatation properties. Size matters to me, which is why I don't fish for yamame here in Japan when I've 30lb carp swimming around nearby (which are harder anyway) but as I said in the FP, I don't photograph many of the fish I catch. Wildness and condition matter very much though.
