Re: Learning to read rivers
Hello from snowy and icy Finland. Reading water, what a beautiful subject. This is first thing I teach when guiding. With some people more and some people less. The ones who really wants to catch a fish with them we spent a lot of time studying this. I studied this by watching insects, leafs, small ...

Re: Rainbows and spawning
In southern Finland there are some areas where spawning has been successfully, but there are no permant population coming from those, thank God. They say in here that it is because of water temp, spawning is early spring and hatching early summer, I would think that circumstances are not really good...

Re: Temperature effects on Brown trout.
Few past summers in here (Finland, close to arctic circle), we habe had water temps +22 c and even +23. When temps are more than +20 you can see how graylings (same go with trouts) start to have problems to recovering after fight, bigger the fish bigger the problem. In Finland they start to close ri...

Re: Mike's manshit
Hi Mike, opinion from Finland even you didn't ask, once again. 😂 I would definitely go with aluminium boat, those can take more hits etc, lighter.... noisy, not really, you are the one who is make them noisy if so. We have small aluminium boat in our small lake, and yes if fish are rising next to bo...

Re: Euro Nymphing (Beginner)
Hi Bendix, I have been fishing trout (and grayling)with Euro nymphing in Finland, Sweden and Russia. I have rod for that only and still I prefer my HT4 with long leader with normal flyline. As Paul mentioned I want to keep option open which means that just chance of fly I can do dries or anything. I...

Nylon or fluorocarbon?
Hi, I use FC when fishing salmon or big trout. Also sometimes when nymphing with small flies and need to go down fast. Not sure if fluoro is helping but testing now and then. I have found that fluoro can handle rocks better but mainly I'm fishing with nylon. Stroft gtm is really good and knot holds ...

downstream nymphing and domestic grayling
We have unwritten rule that you can't stay more than 30 min in one place and then you need to make room for others, also one who is coming from upstream has "right to walk over you" if you are not moving. This is basicly coming from trout fishing, because we have same kind of runs like in ...

downstream nymphing and domestic grayling
Have you found similar fishes from your rivers, which allows you to be their home rock? Have you been doing downstream nymphing? I know normally you nymph upstream but in our waters fishing is going mostly downstream so you need to adjust your fishing.
