Re: failure to make a proper lift

Thanks Paul, I refer to your Masterclass videos often and I can't believe I didn't see that one. I'll try them next time I head out.

Paul Arden wrote: Mon Jan 08, 2024 2:55 pm Other lifts I know and use are the Snake, Wiggle, Snap and Fliick/Dynamic Lifts. For a long line pickup I use the last one. For slack I use the Snake. Snap and Wiggle have some interesting uses.

Cheers, Paul
I'd like to see those on video.

Re: failure to make a proper lift

The initial pickup off the water is two parts (the lift and the casting stroke). They are two parts but one continuous movement. The lift is slow and the casting stroke is the acceleration portion. The 180 degree rule applies to the casting stroke portion but as the line is still mostly on the water...

Re: Tailing Loops vs. Rod Action?

Is there a rod database that quantifies rod action or are we left to the each manufacturers subjective opinion?
What is CCS and CRN?

Thanks

Re: Tailing Loops vs. Rod Action?

Clearly this is deeper than a simple yes or no. My question was apparently based on the false assumption that a softer/slower rod equals more rod bend which requires a wider casting arc, which would encourage a longer casting stroke which would make a smooth application of power easier.

Thanks

Re: Tailing Loops vs. Rod Action?

Would I be correct if I said a slow rod distributes the bend over more of the rod and a fast rod limits it's bend to more of the tip section? For the discussion I'm talking short to medium distance casts (30'-50').

Tailing Loops vs. Rod Action?

Do you believe there is a correlation between the action of the rod and the likelihood of a beginner/intermediate caster throwing tailing loops? My thought is a slower rod is more forgiving to a misapplication of power.
