Re: Paul's FP

I will say they look like impressive fighters. I’m willing to bet pound for pound a snakehead fights harder than a largemouth bass. I hope to eventually find out.

Re: Paul's FP

Paul, when you’re fishing for giant snakehead are you using a
10-weight or is it lighter than that? I’m assuming the rod you use for Gourami is a 5-weight… I could be mistaken. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

Seems like I don’t need to be too concerned about tapering the leader much. No need to hand tie a 6 step blood knotted leader for throwing streamers. I will definitely try both the 60/20/20 and a 60/40 split. The twisted leaders I’ll get around to eventually! I gotta find more time. That is interest...

Re: Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

That book is hard to find! I’ve been told before that it is an excellent read though. At the very least I think I will be going with the “60-20-20” leader formula. Sounds reasonable to me. Out of curiosity, how heavy of a leader would you be using on an 8 weight from butt section to tippet. I know P...

Re: Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

Ok, fly line is a basic Scientific Anglers Aircel WF8F. The leader lengths are 3 feet of 25lb, 18” of 20lb, 18” of 15lb and 3 feet of 12lb. Should I run a heavier butt section and only taper to 20lb? Or no taper at all? It’s probably all wrong.

Re: Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

Lasse, I think my SA line has 3 feet of taper… couldn’t find much more info on it. I nail knot onto the loop with 25lb. Mono and then step down to 20, 15 and then 12lb. I tear up leaders so bad that I make my own. Maybe a bad leader design? Mangrove, I will be trying out the overhead techniques more...

Re: Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

I’ve been attempting to throw the rabbit on a string using an 8 weight rod with a WF8F fly line. Standard weight, I’m not much of a fan of overlining. Seems like enough rod?

Re: Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

I did have the issue of not being able to get the line/leader/fly to land relatively straight with the Belgian cast. I kept making a mess of it. Sounds like I’ll be working on the stopless cast for sure! Appreciate it.

Best advice for weighted articulated flies…..

I recently ventured into the realm of “big boy” articulated flies in search for bass. I’ve always only used dry flies, terrestrials, wooly buggers and the like for all my fishing over the years. I didn’t realize that weighted sculpin patterns would try to kill me so readily. Closed stance overhead c...

Re: Loose grip no squeeze stop?

I must say, the amount of detail involved in fly casting is amazing. I’ve never seen a discussion about using spinning gear or baitcasting rods and reels anywhere near this level. Back to the discussion... I don’t recall having seen or read anything about the Joan Wulff “sponge grip”. Is this anythi...
