Re: Permit - me too
I’m with you on that Paul - it’s all about making that precise shot. Little to no forgiveness in casting mistakes which is the draw in my opinion. Of course, I’ve seen a lot of Permit give the fly a long hard look and not commit, adding further to the intrigue. Like Gary said in his article, Permit ...

Re: Saltwater Casting Angles
Funny because I was definitely practicing with 30ft over the weekend
. Was having trouble with the weighted fly ticking the ground. I’ll have to shorten things up and go from there.

Re: Saltwater Casting Angles
Great stuff! I think I’ll need to focus on the subtlety of the movement that Graeme mentioned as well as moving my hand outward to maintain a SLP that Paul discussed in the pendulum cast video. I think I’ve been over exaggerating the movement too much in the past, producing some wildly inaccurate ca...

Re: Saltwater Casting Angles
Any recommendations on how to execute the cast that kicks the fly upwards?
My attempts at this cast have always been inaccurate and inconsistent.

Re: Saltwater Casting Angles
Thanks for all of the feedback and the video, great stuff! A couple of follow-up questions/comments: Paul - why the Belgian cast for a tailwind? Mangrove - I’ve experimented with curving the fly upward for the soft landing but the accuracy is very inconsistent. Accuracy isn’t look bad with regular s...

Saltwater Casting Angles
Saltwater Casters, What is the best rod angle to cast a weighted fly for saltwater fishing? I’m particularly thinking about permit fishing where pinpoint accuracy is a must and wind is almost always a factor. For me, casting with a more vertical rod angle allows for the best accuracy. Definitely a p...

Re: Reel Drag Settings
Great thoughts gents! Graeme, what do you think of the weight of those Makos? I was a bit hesitant to buy one initially because of the weight. However, the ability to go from “free spool” right back to the exact fishing drag setting overruled the weight issue for me. In fact, the extra weight seems ...

Re: New to the Board from NY
Hey Craig! It’s a bit tough to get some casting practice in when you hands go numb rigging up. I’m coming off a shoulder surgery and last week got my first casts in at the park in about 3 months. Where to are you heading to for those bones? Hope to catch up with you this year maybe at a Catskill Cas...

Re: Reel Drag Settings
Great thoughts gents! I’ve used similar approaches in the past but just with the “feel” of pulling line of the reel. I recently purchased a Mako reel that has a single turn drag knob and have measured its drag strength at different points thru out the 360 degree turn. It seems most reels have multip...
