Re: Discussion with Phil Blackmar

Agree, really enjoyed that and how it was on such an important but almost always overlooked topic. I’d love to hear the rest of the conversation that was just on fishing!

Re: Flyfishing Podcast

Millhouse if you’re into saltwater fishing. It’s just interviews with guides. The early episodes are with some of the legends from the Florida keys.

Re: sparse weighted fly short cast

For sidearm, try following the loop with your rod hand. i.e. make your cast and as the loop is heading toward the target extend your rod hand toward the target as well. Same effect as shooting a bit of line but seems to be a little easier for those short shots. It's a difficult cast regardless, espe...

Re: line lubricants vs

Here’s a US source for silicone oil - https://www.escopro.com/silicone-fluids.html

Cost for a gallon is $300 plus $35 shipping.

Cost on Alibaba is $17 plus $70 for 7 day shipping, waiting on my quote for 30 day shipping.

Impressive markup by Esco.

Re: Fly Rods - slow or fast action

Paul,

Why do you think the loops unstable with the higher line weights like the HT12 you mentioned? Are you referring to HT12 with an MED5?

Re: Issue with marketing

It’s always the archer, not the arrow that determines accuracy of course. Orvis marketing machine aside, I am interested in what appears to be their focus on tip dampening. I’ve never cast an H3 let alone the latest Helios version so I have no idea if there’s any truth to it. But I do know what stuc...

Re: #10 line recommendation

The Bonefish Plus is my new favorite SA line. As you can tell from the grain weight, it’s in-between the Bonefish and Infinity lines. Correcting what I said earlier, it has a more gradual Back taper than the Infinity giving it less of a brick on a string feel. The 8wt matches really well with the HT...
