Re: Indicator Fly / Indicator with a hook

I agree by the way re the type of water. I think it is similar to trotting a float. One size does not fit all situations. Sometimes it has to be bulky and buoyant, sometimes it need to be critically balanced to detect the slightest touch. I find klinks are great in slower water where you can use sma...

Re: Indicator Fly / Indicator with a hook

Thanks Paul. I will try this.
Tail is deer hair, body is poly-yarn with foam and a poly sighter and double hackle. Pretty much every ingredient should add some buoyancy and not take on water.
We’ll see.

Re: Indicator Fly / Indicator with a hook

This was my initial solution, but following discussion with others, it’s suggested that this will be no more buoyant than the original.

Indicator Fly / Indicator with a hook

How do you make a dry fly more buoyant when you are using it as an indicator. IE is there an improvement that can be made to a Klinkhammer to help support a couple of nymphs and avoid it getting sunk? We are not talking about a dryfly here, only a very buoyant indicator, with a hook, that will occas...

Re: Poppers - how much?

They’d pay at least £4.50-5.50 if they bought them from over here, plus postage. I would always expect to pay a little more for a locally tied fly, although I rarely buy any at all these days.
£5.00-6.00 per fly seems a fair deal.

Re: Which taper - What line?

Matt - Look at the SLX (Barrio) as well. I know lots of guys use it for the professional and Advanced. It’s lighter than the Rio and a hell of a lot cheaper. £32 inc shipping. The conversation has really turned to what line should be used for a Spey orientated test, which wasn’t really my original i...

Re: Which taper - What line?

Thanks Mate. Yep, was also at the Open Day. I was the one dragged up to demo the double handed Spey, having never used a double hander!!! I agree re lines for the tests, but was more interested in the general conversation regards tapers and lines that suit certain styles of casting/fishing. It seems...

Which taper - What line?

This question developed in a separate post. It’s a whole new post in itself. I’m at the very start of a journey, hoping to attain AAPGAI accreditation. I’m still very green and have masses to learn. I’ve had a discussion with Paul around the subject of suitable set-ups. I’m using a SLX. It’s been su...

Re: Improve the pick up

Thanks Paul This brings us to another area that I need to / want to know much more about. It may be better as a new thread? What are the properties of a good overhead line Vs Spey line? What should you looks for in a line to present dries as short to medium range Vs heavy nymphs Vs large Bass flies ...
