Re: Paul’s FP - Sungai Tiang
I’ve been looking for big info and reading a bit about the aquatic ecology of the Tiang River and it’s quite interesting. On a first and light review, between harvest, aquaculture, and habitat impacts, it still has an amazing and healthy diversity of fish. I’ll probably spend too much time looking t...

Paul’s FP - Sungai Tiang
Very interesting! That’s a lot of work to haul rafts upstream… but sounds like it’s worth it. I’m curious about what the fish will eat and what food items are there naturally for them, especially the mahseer species- I know nothing about them! Have you kicked over some rocks to look at what bug life...

Re: Sungai Tiang
What a great project to be involved in!
I’ve seen more of these local supported fisheries popping up in media and I think they’re a pretty amazing way to balance resource protection, use, and local profit.

Re: The evolution of Catch and Release
PS great to see you again, Harps! I missed this place! I plan on coming back more often... there’s a lot to catch up on! Jon, that is an interesting concept, and could be very well thought out. C&R is a great fisheries management tool, one that is largely responsible for the prevalence o...

Re: The evolution of Catch and Release
Paul, those are great practices, and I wish more people followed them here. When I started only a few snobby anglers caught and released, but because of the size limits many fish were thrown back as they were too small (but we rarely followed the regulations, though). Even if we had more fish than w...

Re: Saskatoon, Canada
I had Walleye in Arkansas at night below the White River Dam. It was one of the strangest experiences of my life, there is so much mist coming off the water you cannot see more than about 20 feet at its thickest. Walleye are such buggers to handle in the light... In the dark - no thanks! I do get t...

Re: Saskatoon, Canada
Walleye are pretty much Zander... they're very interesting fish, but not always the best on a fly. Their teeth and spines make handling them horrible, especially in the cold when you don't realize you've been impaled. WALL.jpg Goldeye are a smaller fish, but fun in the evening on dryflies. https://w...

Re: Saskatoon, Canada
It's been too long since I've been on the board! Hi Morten, Saskatoon is a little far from me, and I haven't spent much time up that way. You could contact folks in the Kilpatrick Fly Fishing club - http://www.kilpatrickflyfishers.com/ or the folks a couple hours north in the Northern Waters Club - ...

Lars on Griffith Gnat
http://www.sexyloops.com/index.php/ps/griffiths-gnat Great page. I love this pattern- it’s an underrated staple in my Fly box. But, I think the grizzly hackle adds to the sense of moving or buzzing wings - I can’t say I’ve tied one without at least a grizzly hackle mixed with another colour. Does an...
