2025 US Open

Hello All, The Long Beach Casting Club will have its 100th Anniversary in 2025. To celebrate this occasion, it has decided to hold the 2025 ACA Nationals and to make it a "US Open". The location will be the casting pond in Long Beach (just south of Los Angeles). This post is not an officia...

Re: measurements during competition match

Hello Richard, I think it's great that you want to take your "little competitions" to a more official level. More meaning in the competition translates into more fun for many participants (before and/or during the competition). I have a few thoughts - often from the organizer's perspective...

Re: Most visible color wool for trout accuracy

I thought of that (believe it or not). But the rules say "monofilament" leader, which prohibits copper wires. :( :(
We could microwave the power to the fly...
Well, if we are willing to do that, then we could also just put up a spot light (maybe an invisible UV spot light).

Hello Alan,
Yes, there are - but the batteries are still too heavy. :)

Re: Most visible color wool for trout accuracy

Hello Bart, This may be too late for that particular competition, but there will be others. In the ACA, we only have "approved flies" in yellow and white. So maybe I am biased because of that, but I thought that those colors cover most circumstances. That's until I experimented with Chartr...

Re: WC - overall

Hello WP, About your question about Teams scoring. Last year, I saw a draft of the Fly Casting rules where someone had added team rules - but then edited most of that away. So the short answer is that there are no Teams competitions in Fly Casting (yet). In the classical Casting, the members of a Te...

Re: WC - overall

Hello All, About the Spey-o-Rama "World Championship" I am a bit embarrassed about it. It is clear to me that the GGACC folks do not have permission from the ACA or directly from the ICSF to call their event a World Championship. As I understand, the ICSF is recognized by the International...

US Open Championship 2023

Hello All, The ACA Board of Directors have approved the very first US Open Championships!! To see the schedule, go to <http://americancastingassoc.org/>. It's going to be a festival of casting. There are 4 plug events and 9 fly events, i.e. plenty of chances to "get lucky with the wind". :...

Re: WC - overall

Hello All, What's your sense/opinion: How much prize money would there need to be at the World Championships (or at your National Championships?) to increase participation by 50% in each division? I don't have a good sense about that. As Mike said, without a little extra kick, it is not always easy ...

Re: WC - overall

Hello Mike, I feel with you. Even for those of us who have a dedicated casting pond and a "casting" club with >100 members (mostly fishermen or "knife-and-forkers"), it is a rare thing to find someone new who is at least temporarily interested in casting competitively. Several of...
