Re: Separating rod speed from haul speed

You're probably feeling the change in tension. The 170, especially with a shooting head arrangement, initially puts a lot of slack into the rod-leg by the tip of the rod. This is then pulled taut by the fly leg, hence the feeling of increasing tension. If you're feeling this then that's a really go...

Re: Separating rod speed from haul speed

As an aside I allowed myself to open right up into 170 for a few casts near the end of todays session; interesting feeling when the timing / tracking is right, it feels really light as it starts to morph and then you can feel the line accelerate really fast. I let go with the line hand on a few and...

Re: Separating rod speed from haul speed

Hey Vince / Paul…. As I expected…. No shortcuts😂 I’m pretty much doing stuff along the lines suggested…. I was doing single cast back or front to floor earlier… it’s helped tighten up my tracking on the backcast loads, still needs work on the forward. Luckily people know me, it’s only a small villag...

Separating rod speed from haul speed

I’ve been working on my carry for the last few weeks (when the appalling weather allows), picking up at either 55’ or 65’, either as puald or into carry; I’m using a chopped down dt line, shooting head of 55 or 65’ depending which reel I pick up. I practice keeping the line in hand and with the head...

Re: Beginner's Study Guide for Classes

Weather is a real pain… I’ve managed to practice once in the last week…. it has been continuously windy and wet, culminating tomorrow with a forecast for 50-55mph winds and 95% chance of heavy rain… I won’t be practicing tomorrow 😂

Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

View from a ‘non-expert & non-beginner’… I can probably remember better than most of the highly accomplished expert casters on here what it actually ‘feels’ like as a beginner…. Relatively it’s not as long ago! Definitely at the beginning feel is useless…. Unless we are referring to ‘feel the ro...
