Re: Good read... about tarpon fishing
Not everyone on a video is an expert these days! Bowing, or relieving some stress, is still done, but maybe not as dramatically as in the past. Especially with newer low-stretch flylines, if you are using usual tippet strengths its best to give when they go up. Rods are not kept as high as before an...

Re: The most accurate fly rod
Is it a secret?Lasse Karlsson wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 6:34 pm Maxine used a very recent rod to beat everybody and the kitchen sink in 22. Most accurate casters are those that practice accuracy. One can hit a ping pong ball with a willow branch as a rod if one can cast.
Cheers
Lasse
The rod... not that she kicked ***!

Re: Fly Rods - slow or fast action
Hi Gary, yes. Cheers, Paul Thanks Paul! I thought I got my mind around your theory. I'd say no, as I want to release long before counterflex  Cheers Lasse Lasse, Dang it! You almost ruined my idea, but... My hypothesis is that the rod you use the most, will yield the best results for you, an...

Re: Fly Rods - slow or fast action
Just for clarification... (Despite Paul's fine art) :D For an ideal (minimum) carry with the MED - the length of running line between the rod tip and the line hand, at the point of shooting, depends primarily upon the amount of counterflex of the particular rod? (And secondarily upon environmental c...

Re: Swinging for salmon
The most interesting demonstrator for me personally was of Norwegian descent who highlighted techniques and the advantages of fishing sinking line in saltwater. He suggested that the techniques for swinging flies for Atlantic salmon translate very well… so that might be my next learning endeavor. C...

Re: Analytical vs numerical differentiation
Walter, As an aside... thank you so much for summarizing what I remember from my days in calculus class! If only my professors offered some real world examples - like application of functions and derivatives to fly casting - I may have stayed with it. Who knows, if so I may have turned out to be an ...

Re: Issue with marketing
Speaking of stiff rods with soft tips... I cast a new Hardy rod at the recent show. It was the most dramatic combination of those parameters that I have ever cast. Hardy seems to be targeting salt water. Their top salt sales rep, Andy Mill, gave a demo and hung around at the booth. He is famous for ...

Re: Fly Rods - slow or fast action
Lou, I don't think it is that simple. Your MCL theory is on one side; the third class lever increasing tip speed for the faster rod is on the other. Which rod casts farthest for you? Maybe its more about matching a certain bend to your particular cast? A couple of weeks ago I broke my current favori...

Re: Swinging for salmon
So... 50 reads and no responses?
Is swinging flies for salmon a secret, or does no one do it anymore?
My online investigation turned up one book that was mentioned a few times... and it was published in 1957!
I guess I'll hit up the guide that spoke at the show.

Re: Defining Haul
John, The part that gets my attention seems to be overlooked. Depending upon which version of history chosen, what seems not to be debated was the previous record - set without the "new" double haul technique and with the rod technology of the day... probably bamboo or "green heart&qu...
