Re: Teaching tip path in DH

Cool thanks Bernd, I'll have a play with making one up. I know there was a gold swing divice that could also be adapted, I saw it once and thought "hmmm I like the look of that", but have not been able to find it again.

Re: Teaching tip path in DH

Just on Tracey's tip path on that first pick up and backcast - its one continuous curve hence that bc loop. Suggest she try lifting smoothly and steadily to a start point ie. approx 10 o'clock, then accelerate straight back. Lift should be fast enough to not allow a sag to develop, and slow enough t...

Re: Teaching tip path in DH

I'll just add that in relation to tip path (and I can't see this, nor do I know the rod (looks bloody stiff) or how many grains the line is) but the higher energy input you have is probably bending it deeper over that longer stroke, while Tracy's narrower arc is probably doming slightly, lots of dan...

Re: Teaching tip path in DH

Tracy's first back cast is not ideal (wide, with low energy and is caught by the wind) then it's a series of catch up strokes to regain tension. Her second cast is "cleaner" but I would say the lift is too fast. Your tip path (stroke) is far longer, as a result of your open stance, which a...

Re: Single handed distance roll casting

Works for me. From there you can give it a torque tweak, and/or follow through with an upward thrust.

Re: Teaching Spey

I indeed see that a lot in your country. Some heads are just 5 to 6m long and they don't even need a proper D anymore.
That's your proper "brick on a string".

Re: Single handed distance roll casting

That's an amazing roll cast Lasse, trying to find what you did that was different, but I guess it was all just executed cleaner and neater.

Re: Teaching tip path in DH

By huge breakthrough discovery you mean to not watch the tip or to watch the tip?
I missed answering your question. To watch the tip, and many other moments and movements of the cast. Seeing an anchor crash without observing why it crashed teaches you nothing etc etc etc.

Re: Single handed distance roll casting

Both the fish and the competition targets are always in the direction of the delivery/front cast. If I had an instructor who constantly threw wide shitty back casts, but thought they were OK, or who had never even taken a look at them and addressed the issues that cause them, I'd want my money back...

Re: Teaching tip path in DH

Bernd, My perspective is that with a longer rod, when you need to look behind you twist at the hips, or rotate your shoulders to have a look, and with a longer rod you're going to have far greater movement at the tip as a result, and you're going to get a false reading every time. I also think that ...
