Yes, that's true.Paul Arden wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 4:34 pm Edit: I can see you are throwing over the top, and also we can see that the rod tip curves in the vertical plane.

Re: The most accurate fly rod
Hi Torsten and Bernd, Here's that video with the 9' rod. The video production is not great and it was a bit gusty, but I think it shows that nearly vertical loops can be made with a nearly horizontal rod at various distances. (I did cast to 75' for one of the clips but it's too far to see what's goi...

Re: Tracking and Loop planes
I'm not going to weigh in too much on this definition. The cast I posted this morning (the sideways rod with a vertical loop, see below) tracks well because the tip path is within a vertical plane. The fact that the rod tip occupied a plane that was not the same plane as the rod occupied makes the d...

Re: The most accurate fly rod
Hi Graeme, Here's an example from the office jungle Can you try this with an "ordinary" fly rod? (I think it's possible to get at least close to a vertical USD loop, better than Bernd's sequences suggest) Greetings, Torsten Yep, I'll video it in the park before I start work tomorrow. Thes...

Re: The most accurate fly rod
Hi Graeme, If I understand you correct, you move your rod sideways (off vertical plane), but want the legs of the loop stay in vertical loop plane. I have doubts, that this possible. Hi Bernd, Yes, it’s possible and it’s more common than you think. The most obvious occurrence is the snap in a snap-...

Re: Guide sizes
I build all my rods with single-foot guides, Ti framed with SiC inserts. I love them and won't build with anything else if I have the choice. Yes, the chances of getting a real clusterfuck are increased with these guides and a big fish, but I'm anal about line management because of that. So far, I h...

Re: The most accurate fly rod
I can think of many times where I would like a vertical loop orientation from a canted rod. In those situations, my rod does not occupy the same plane throughout the cast. The rod tip follows a vertical plane while the rod doesn’t.

In that situation, I’d swap hands.
