Re: Essential instructor skills. Where to start?

Retrospectively it was a useful process to go through, as I spent a few months practicing casting with very little wrist, I guess in a more traditional casting approach. I was just surprised that an examiner for the CI could potentially see it as a fault, even though my loops were tight or more open...

Re: Essential instructor skills. Where to start?

I met up with Vince last week and was chatting about / enquiring on whether there were key differences between organisations or whether it was individual instructors. The winter immediately prior to covid lockdown I started on the path to becoming an instructor through AAPGAI and had met my mentor o...

Re: Slack line casts

Perhaps I didn’t start to get it 😂 I focussed on breaking it down into stages and over emphasising the stages of the cast… I think that was helpful, but ended up with a different cast at the twist stage.. I ended up being able to repeatedly cast an 18’ length of line and 9’ leader so there was about...

Re: Essential instructor skills. Where to start?

Interesting observation. I’ve also observed that when you train with athletes who are at a higher level than where you are currently at you improve more quickly than training with others who are currently at the same level you are at. Certainly a big motivator for me…. Years back when I first start...

I was a member of AAPGAI until Bernd got us kicked out for a FP he wrote that I refused to censor.

Cheers, Paul
Intriguing…. How do I find such a controversial FP😂

Re: Essential instructor skills. Where to start?

An essential that’s overlooked, I guess because you can’t really change it, is personality…. The best teachers of any discipline have a personality that naturally engages and makes people feel comfortable… we all had teachers who were great teachers and popular across the board, they just have an ab...

Re: Slack line casts

Thanks Malik…. I think I started to get it sorted this afternoon, following a couple more of your suggestions… I changed to a stiffer 4w rod and used a 5w MED on it… A few things I obviously wasn’t getting right: - I wasn’t getting the line to tail properly, having just read Paul’s post with some am...

Re: Slack line casts

Thanks Malik, I’ve still got the video you sent me 3 years ago, that’s a great one for seeing what the final movement is… I definitely fall in the camp of finding it easier if I can see what is happening, if I watch a vid enough I can start to get a feel for it… I reckon I just need to tweak the tim...

Re: Slack line casts

Thanks Malik…. I was actually just working through all the posts on the original thread and noticed you’d said 3 yrs ago it was ‘before’ the cast was finished… apologies for getting you to repeat yourself 😁… I’ll pantomime it through the day tomorrow as a break from the work laptop… I’ve got the twi...
