I've tried the athletic tape thing (admittedly only once) and it was brilliant!
I now have a roll of the stuff in my teaching kit. :-)

Re: Teaching Top hand v Bottom hand
I’m with Jarmo in that I tend to focus on getting the bottom hand away from the body during the sweep. Getting them to think about pushing the rod away from their body with both hands at the start of the sweep works well. I’m wary of using “circle up” Morsie, as I think this often leads to chronic c...

Re: 180 "tails".
Hi Will, I do think one of the differences is line length. Imagine for example Aitor’s (excellent) video but double the line length. Which raises the question... when does a waypoint become a dangle? (Edit: or vice versa!) https://www.sexyloops.co.uk/theboard/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3379&hilit=...

Re: 180 "tails".
Mmm... What got me thinking was Aitor’s video. You can see the angle change in the line at the start of his fc (breaking the 180), but I don’t see the angle change propagate downwards (the reverse in fact). Interesting to see that Aitor drifts down, and then the start of the stroke is moving the lin...

Re: 180 "tails".
Isn’t the difference between a dangle and a tail dependent on the direction of travel of the face of the wave? In a tail, cause by misapplication of force, the wave has a downward momentum which deepens the tail as it progresses, resulting in a classic crossing (or near crossing) of the rod leg. In ...

Re: How do fish get away?
Why not try a popper on a tube? If you get the right diameter tube the loop knot will sit against the tube and keep the hook away from the body.
Agree with Graeme: short shank/wide gape.

Re: How do fish get away?
I've been trying something similar on salmon tube flies. Comments I'd make: I can't be sure but I think Bendix's wire rig photo has the wire coming through the eye the wrong way? Pretty sure you want the wire to exit the inside of the eye? Try it both ways and see which turns the hook best. Carp ang...

Re: Sage trout DHD
Hiya Guessing that's the 2wt? I have an Orvis 3wt which I've used the Rio Trout Spey #3 head on, and the Skagit, as well as a #7wt Barrio SLX which is nice.. Hours of fun Lee! The Trout Spey head chucks most things, and the Skagit is an animal! I've used the Trout Spey head most often, as a light sa...

Re: Twisting rod sections to lock/unlock
Hi Magnus Up until this season I always taped DH rods. This season I didn't, however I did keep an eye on the joints and every now and again re-seated them if necessary. Didn't break anything*, but did have to do a fair bit of re-seating. I've never taped my SH rods. *Well I did break one rod, but t...
