Re: Twisting rod sections to lock/unlock

Paul, When Fenwick first came out with their Feralite (tip over butt) ferrules in the early 1960s, they silk screened. I M P O R T A N T TWIST ON -- TWIST OFF APPLY PARAFFIN TO FERRULE AS NEEDED FOR LUBRICATION They wanted to make sure you got the message, what better way than to print it on the rod...

Re: Twisting rod sections to lock/unlock

Twisting with Nickel Silver ferrules is bad. The mettle will gumb up, cause gaulling and the parts can get stuck. You should have seen my friends cringe when I twisted a metal ferrule in front of them. I was politely corrected. For Spiggot ferules, I usually don't. For tip over butt sections, I almo...

There does seem to be rather a lot of people casting with the wind nowadays :D Me personally I’m not impressed with anything that is wind assisted. I feel like I’m in a minority here but that’s not going to change. That’s just a case of who has the biggest wind  After taking a break from try...

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

I'm curious on people's opinions on the old cork, draw-bar style (Abel big game) reels. They are not maintenance free and the spools on the old BG models are not large arbor, but they are simple and easy to clean and work on. I presume Large Arbor is a must, but is the sealed drag that important? I ...

Re: What is a good angler, what is a good fly caster?

I love this topic, because the first page of replies really hit the nail on the head. What consumes you, and does your mind flow back to? What is your love and passion? Where are you putting your effort to improve? It the general area of fly rod associated activities, it could be distance casting, a...

Re: Dealing with spam help!

For the out bound email. It is possible that "Sexy" is hitting the keyword filters for some people, but I don't know what you can do about that. As for inbound emails. Gmail is pretty good at tuning based on what you select. so got through your spam and tag everything you want as "not...

Re: That whuuumpin' feeling

Try casting without line. Hold the fly line against the rod, holding both sides with your rod hand (so you have two lengths of line, reel to tip, tip to hand) and give it that little spin so the loose end wraps around the rod. Now cast to a firm stop so you feel the rod bounce. Overlining the rod by...

It could be that you are in Ketosis and burning fat, so you don't get a carb letdown (you are running long distances right?)

Re: Analysing loop propagation

The mechanics of fly line movement is fascinating. At first appearance, it is simple. There are two forces acting on the line (my hand and gravity) How hard can it be? But there are so many confounding factors. By tethering of the line to the rod tip, you loose the simple F=MA equation and have to t...
