Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

I believe the manufacturer was aware of the sealing issue and corrosion problem since there was a separate saltwater paragraph in the user manual back in early 2015.

And Sakke you're right again. An o-ring as a shaft seal or gland seal is definitely a poor choice.

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

I have to agree with Sakke on the WW Lamson. The reels are in my opinion a clear case of "the emperor’s new clothes" where fashion wins over quality and durability. They do look good, but the mechanical design is hopeless and so is the combination of metals inside the drag system which cle...

Re: Line Twist and the Parallel Universe

So, when you have accumulated a lot of line twist and it doesn't disappear when shooting the line to the reel, what do you do? I have been taught 2 solutions that work reasonably, but none of them are perfect. 1) Rotate the rod axial a few times. I'm a right handed caster and believe I introduce the...

Re: Managing mono shooting lines

Thank you guys, really! Finally it worked a whole day in pouring rain with an OPST Lazer with only a few slips. Basically I combined all the advice I received here. If it's to any use to a future reader, here goes: A coated piece of shooting line approx 4.5 - 4.7 meters long (depending on rod length...

Re: Managing mono shooting lines

Hi Lasse and Lars I’ve tried mono on and off for the past 6 years - mostly off, no doubt, since the frustration gets the better of me with when the line starts feeling like an eel. I guess that’s around when both the mono line and my fingers have been soaked enough to feel completely saturated... Th...

Re: Managing mono shooting lines

Hi Lasse, no actually I never thought of that. Have you tried it and if so, does it work well?

Re: Managing mono shooting lines

That's actually what i did, Paul. Just used af piece of coated line (old running part of a WF) for added friction. It worked out well for the casting part but I'm still strugling holding onto the mono line when a fish strikes. I'll try out a rubber and leather tumble. Good idea 👌 20200514_122119.jpg

Managing mono shooting lines

I'm seeking a piece of advice on mono shooting lines and guessing this might be the proper place to ask my question. After having stretched the line when it comes off the reel to remove any memory coils, I really enjoy casting and fishing with mono shooting lines over coated. To me the pros of the m...

Leader designs

I came across the "Leaders for students" topic, which made me wonder how you design and what influences your leader design? Since I live near the coastline in Denmark I primarily fish in saltwater for sea run browns. For that I normally use a 6-weight 9' rod with a shooting head setup. At ...

Re: Thoughts on catch and release - best practice

Much appreciated guys! I might be mistaken, but believe it's an area that hasn't got much focus. And honestly there's probably a lot i don't know and this would be a good forum to ask more experienced anglers. How about hook size (both hook gap and wire diameter)? And if lifting the fish up for a qu...
