Re: Shooting heads
There are most likely several thing in play. Depending on your chosen shootingline, a checked shoot, or to the reel, as Paul says, is also my preferred method when casting in anything but a tail wind. Monofilament shootinglines have very little resistance and thus turnover can be a problem on longer...

Re: The effect of Tiptop size
I do believe that a pear-shaped tip-top can pinch a a line, especially heavier lines, though maybe more with undue wear as a result than any noticeable reduction in casting length. I don't think size matters much, unless it's ridiculously small. The line should be running fairly straight through the...

Re: Echo MPR double haul kit
I have the MPR as well and made my own shooting-line-extension years ago. I'm using it with the full-length yellow cord and red leader. It's a grea tool, becauase everything is so visible. I once spent more or less a whole winter practising with it, and I was actually going to write and FP about thi...

Re: Software That Shows A Trouts Visual Acuity
Riiiighttt - it’s a trick to get us to send you flies. Quite a bit subtler than Paul used to be, though .Though if you have any particular flies you want me to test send them through
But, jokes aside, it’s an interesting software and I look forward to trying it when you get it online.

Re: Pike fly line for HT10
Hey Piffen,
Yes, a floater, an intermediate and a faster sinker covers most of my pike fishing. Whether it’s a S3 or 4 makes little difference. A S2 is too close to an intermediate.

Very interesting! Is it internet-up-load based, computer software or a phone-app?

Re: Pike fly line for HT10
Hej Piffen, This is of course a difficult question to answer as there are so many variables and personal preferences involved. First of all - I fish 22 gram shooting heads on mine, usually around 9m long. I cut them from double hand lines and customise the line, so it has a thicker tip section that ...

Re: Fly of the Month - October 2021
A small brunch of marabou does work very well. I jumped on the braided marabou wagon too many years ago. And as far as imitation and mobility goes, it really is excellent, but as you say, very fragile. I think I still have a few, but the Furled Damsel has taken over completely. That is in fact a ver...

Fly of the Month - October 2021
I just stumbled upon this post, which could have been a nice, ongoing series of posts, but somehow seems to have stalled a long time ago :-). I posted an FP about my two, main damselflies yesterday and spoke to Paul later. I asked about the Arden Damsel, which apparently has quite a long history. Pa...

Re: A week with Way Yin (aka Bubba)
Hi Way, So nice to see you back here! It really has been a very long time. We used to shoot quite a few emails back and forth, years ago.' It really is sad to read about the steelhead situation, and unfortunately, it's the same for atlantic salmon in most of the world. Except of course for Denmark, ...
