Re: shooting head connection for fishing

Depends on your preference. I would not go much below 40-50lb versions as the gripping is not too nice on the thin ones. And with the thin ones there isn’t much abrasion resistance.

Re: shooting head connection for fishing

For cheap option on the shooting line, many here have changed over to Ultima Powerlex or Asso Ultraflex in salmon fishing. I have some Ultima and it is much stiffer than Rio Slickshooter for example. Probably a good thing if needing to use in tropics. Also, braided loop (done correctly) will work. B...

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

Peter, Quite often drags are the same within one series reels or some sizes share the same drag. Of course there are reels where all size have individual drags. When the drags are the same, the bigger the reel, the less drag as the moment that the drag puts out doesn’t change. Sage 8010pro that I ha...

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

With BFT or YFT I tend to go on full drag pretty much immediately when I have the fish on the reel. Before that, but after sertting the hook, I just let line slide out without resistance - if you are putting tension with your hand the rod bend and line stretch coupled with the resistance changes fro...

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

I’ve sometimes put small pieces of coban wrap (or similar not branded) on some if the drag knob spokes. I use mine for tuna mostly and it is not finnesse stuff with thick leaders. So after hookup it is mostly full drag until the fish is ready to be boated and then it is quick large setting changes (...

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

For me that would be Mako. For me the drag adjustment is by far the best in the market. I saw a Trident video with some kind of review where they did not appreciate it and compared it Ross Evolution. They are worlds apart. Mako is one turn, rotates with just the right amount of resistance and you ca...

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

Ok, then you don’t need to mind about sealing really. But you probably would appreciate very powerful drag. And a really powerful drag is not too nice unless it is quick to adjust (one or maybe 1.5 turns).

Re: Saltwater Fly Reels

Don’t know the seal on new Litespeed M. Many sealed reels may be ok for quite deep submersion, but bad things start to happen when the spool starts to revolve. A buddy of mine destroyed one behemoth in a few days in Florida with albies. The one way bearing couldn’t handle the long durations of high ...

Re: Loops on SA lines

Old one and in Finnish: https://www.perhokalastajat.net/index.php?page=lenkit-ja-liitokset-perhosiiman-ytimen-avulla Difference to Lasse's method is that I pulled the tag end fully inside. It stays there with chinese fingerlock. I used Aquasure to seal the hole in the coating and also compensate the...
