Re: SLP

Hi Phil, Are you familuar with this? 20230107_142859.jpg And lets not forget, that this is a 2d view where the third dimension was the surface of my whiteboard. In real casting there is no straight. If we put several cameras, I doubt we see much of a straight path. We try to get tip path partially ...

Re: SLP

Paul Arden wrote: Fri Jan 05, 2024 4:58 pm However all of the tip path shapes the loop in some way and it needs to be slightly domed for most casts and certainly when forming the final stages of the loop.

Cheers, Paul
What do you mean?

thanks

Re: SLP

I find fooling with Paul’s snake head shot enlightening. If the backcast is well aimed with plenty of velocity you can slip line during forward rotation, touch the haul for a scant moment then release, and the line will sail out there with a straight fly leg for a surprising distance. Works the sam...

SLP

The general consensus seems to be most of you do not like the idea of an SLP. Many of the reasons seemed to revolve around teaching, so can we take teaching out of the equation and just discuss SLP as it relates to a straight fly leg on lengthy casts? It would seem logical that there must be an SLP ...

Re: Under estimating translational movement

Television uses the term “layout” to mean shut the “f” up. I’m gonna layout on that one Vince. In fact, one of my 2024 intentions is to do so more often.

Did Lasse diagnose the bits to be twiddled without seeing anything at all?

Happy New Year to you as well 🍺🥃

Vince
Yes he did. I don’t remember my exact description but it had to do with bigger rod and fly and difficulty with the loop. He nailed it for me.

Re: Under estimating translational movement

Knotty little problem, isn’t it :D Regards Vince It is Vince. But, isn't it fun when you can read your loop and make adjustments accordingly. For instance, I was having issues making long casts with a 9 wt and a heavy fly into the wind fishing in the surf. At first my fly would kick up on layout. N...

Re: Under estimating translational movement

Sorry, this is a little out of order as the thread has drifted to teaching. Going back to the SLP conversation-If a straight fly leg is the objective, the tip has to move in a straight line for a certain portion of the stroke. I have no idea what that ratio may be or if it may change with length of ...

Re: Under estimating translational movement

Hi John, SLP confuses me. Does it refer to the rod tip or the rod hand? If it is the former what causes it, if not the hand path? I understand we use a bend rod (much bendier than a tennis racquet, but for any given rod and line length, is not the causal issue the hand path? A bit like counter flex ...

Re: Under estimating translational movement

Yep we are very much on that same page, Nils. Happy New Year to you too by the way! I also try to avoid the terms Stop and SLP. I agree there are things in there we don’t fully understand and my attention has shifted more towards MCL and immediately after as being more critical than immediately pre...
