Delivery cast for accuracy

#1

Post by John Waters »

Hi All,

Interested in your feedback on another straw poll, this one about the delivery cast. When you are casting to hoops do you structure your delivery stroke such that

your fly and, or leader lands first,
fly and line alight together,
rod end of line lands first,
other?

Thanks in advance,

John

I aim for fly first, hope to get better at it.

Thanks Lasse for your feedback, much appreciated. I think your delivery is the best option because it means there is no change to a delivery from a false cast that gives you the best chance to sight the fly over the target.

There is a very great danger of ticking that way. It’s my preferred option too. Although I sometimes go with the third option.

Cheers, Paul
It's an exploration; bring a flyrod.

Thanks for your response Paul, appreciated. Ticking the water is costly and extremely frustrating. You have extended or reduced your line length from the previous target, you can see the fly perfectly over the current target, know you have the required length and just as you are aligning your penultimate false cast hear the judge call - no score, tick fly, next target.
