There’s a whole range of presentation casts that are solely intended to decelerate the fly and many distance casts fail to turn over the fly. From my recollection, Dr GattiBono Bono produced a model based on 6 simultaneous ODE whose output also showed the fly after loop formation.

The paper I was thinking of was "Physical and Numerical Modelling of the Dynamic Behaviour of a Fly Line". It modelled a 30ft cast with a #5 DT, the following is an extract of the time history
