Simplified Casting Physics Document

Post by Paul Arden »

Hi Gents,

I would like to put out a simplified casting physics document that can be understood by the general public. I think this would go a long way to remove some of the myths and poor understanding that is quite prevalent even today. I was going to do this in a private forum, but I would like to attempt to do this online, here on the Board, over in the flycasting section.

I think the way I would like to do it is to knock out a few myths first, such as rod loading, the anchor loading the rod, double hauling loading the rod (I know it does, but you know what I mean) etc etc. And then we can go into physics of how it actually works, the loop and so on. And then finally the purpose of line tapers and so on.

I will moderate it.

Let me know if you think this is a good idea and I'll write a loose structure.

Thanks, Paul

Flycasting, so simple that instructors need to make it complicated since 1685

Great idea Paul. :)
Looking forward to see how simple it can be done.

all for it !
any way the different topics could be separated, like a new section on the Board like the App thing ? otherwise it's just become a big mess :D

cheers,

Yes I'll give it a forum within a forum, and restructure as necessary within that forum. It's all under control Marc. :ninja:

I've been considering inviting Frank back. I've kind of missed him.

Btw I think the term rod loading is a bad term to use since it automatically makes people think we store lots of energy in the LOADED rod in order to achieve the desired line speed.
I prefer rod bending to be explained as being the consequance of rotating the rod. I avoid "loading" and this seems to do a much beter job for most.
