I doubt it! I imagine it's just pitched out and lots of slack thrown afterwards. Consequently a short uptide boat rod would be more practical. (And a multiplier :p )

You can get good or even better action than the articulated fly (I think it's called the game changer?) with a pulse disc. Saw them at a show...amazing. I will be trying them out when stripper season begins. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9LNen4tupqQ

I think Petejean makes one as well, but obviously that one is a bit overpriced.

I think the only disadvantage is that they land with a splash and they are a bit visible, although if the fish is chasing the fly, I doubt they can see through the hair to a small translucent disc.
