A Fast Rod?

A Fast Rod?
I've fished for years with a Greys GR50 9’ #5 rod. It’s sold as fast but it really isn't - at best it's medium-fast. I’ve recently tried a Sage Igniter for casting and loved it. But it's £900. Does anything like that rod exist at a sane price?

Re: A Fast Rod?
Igniter is sold as ultra fast?
Magnus disagrees with your assesment of the greys as a medium fast rod, and even Bill Hanneman does too. https://www.flyfishing-and-flytying.co. ... ft_5_4pce/
If the CCS data is consistent throughout the range, then get a greys gr50 that has 7 written above the handle and use your 5 weight line on it
Cheers

Re: A Fast Rod?
Yes. Whatever that means.
I can't make it a fast rod and neither can the GAIA guys I've handed it to.Magnus disagrees with your assesment of the greys as a medium fast rod, and even Bill Hanneman does too. https://www.flyfishing-and-flytying.co. ... ft_5_4pce/
I have the #5 and the #7. To my mind the #7 feels much faster than the #5. I'll try a #4 on the #5 :-)If the CCS data is consistent throughout the range, then get a greys gr50 that has 7 written above the handle and use your 5 weight line on it
But really, no other fast, cheap rods?
Cheers

Re: A Fast Rod?
Then you better quantify what you mean is a fast rod
And it was your 5 on the rod that says 7, not a 4 on the rod that says 5 that you think is medium fast whatever that means....
Cheers

Re: A Fast Rod?
Hi Colin,
Which line are you using on the 5?
As Lasse says underlining will make any rod feel “fast”. I haven’t cast the igniter here but it’s the TCR/X family. So I’m guessing ERN is 7-8? CCS data should help you find something similar.
Cheers, Paul

Re: A Fast Rod?
Well, for any database to have the igniter 590 in it, someone has to have measured it.... the SL has been down since before the igniter predessesor the method, so theres also that.... measure the igniter and you have a starting point, but I would hazard an educated guess that you will end up where I suggested
Cheers

One of the databases still available, look for something with ERN 7,5-8 AA of 70-72 and you have a starting point.
Cheers
