I came to the conclusion I did because I still have the same rods and some of the lines from when I first started to practice. All that has really changed is my range and accuracy of movement.

The 5 weight rods that I have now are way stiffer than the 6 and 7 weight rods that I started with 40 years ago. I tried out those ancient rods recently and they felt like big wet noodles. Some of them hadn’t been cast in 30 years, so it certainly wasn’t a case of over use. I blame my memory!
