Sorry to hear that, Tom. I also met him a few times, but only in passing. A great angler for sure! Hugely influential on the UK Stillwater scene.

Cheers, Paul

ahh no ... another man who hugely influenced my fishing as I devoured his articles in Trout Fisherman mag. Used to have one of his rods too ... 10' 8/9 if I remember correctly. RIP ....

RIP.

After my dad and I read his book “reservoir trout fishing”, probably around 1982, we totally changed the way we fished our local lakes - and started catching a lot more fish!

I bought that book now for £ 0.98 plus shipping in supposedly very good condition. Will be interesting to read.

I’m sure you will find some interesting things in it, but it will be very dated by now - I think it was first published in 1978!

When I first read it, as a kid, I was just starting to fly fish. My dad had done some fly fishing 20 or so years before, but mostly in rivers. Fishing reservoirs for stocked rainbow trout was a fairly new thing in the north of England, and information on how to do it was just not available. Bob Church’s book really opened our eyes to a different way of doing things.
