Non-throwing arm action

The action of the non-throwing arm is important to the execution of a block. Ideally a thrower should forcefully pull their non-throwing arm from an extended position in towards their body to assist in a blocking action. Tell the athletes that it is like they are pulling a handle in towards their ribs.

So I suppose it does!
It's an exploration; bring a flyrod.

It does Paul, it is a standard movement in other throwing sports and all coaches and instructors advocate and teach the same. I mentioned in an earlier post that the thrower's non-throwing hand action is not dissimilar to the haul and the above description reflects that. We do a disservice to casting when we think fly casting is so unique that it requires both unique actions and language to perform it and instruct it. The more rotational based the distance casting technique becomes, the more important body segment blocking becomes. Not so critical in a linear /translational based body technique.
