Biggest benefit for the flycasting community, would be for it to stop talking about loading completly...

Flycasting, so simple that instructors need to make it complicated since 1685

PSS. How to generate a climbing loop through control of the casting stroke is left as a (considerable) exercise to the reader.

Paul Arden wrote:I get bruises on my forearms from all rods. What does that have to do with a feeling of lightness/heaviness? :) I said it's a feeling (when casting). Obviously the rod is heavier!
If the heavier rod feels lighter, it is possibly being more efficient and will result in unemployment for flies.

That would leave more time to talk about other things like how straight the straight line path should be or the definition of a casting stroke.

Mel was so enthusiastic! What a great teacher. I wish I could have met him.

Trouble is, when he shows the bad cast, the rod "loads" (bends) as much as or more than it does when he shows a good cast. The difference is when it bends and straightens during the casting stroke, not how much it bends.

Cheers,
Graeme

Whumping the rod is important. He never mentions unwhumping.

Lasse of the many things I have learned one of the key things is that many people who talk about a skill often don't do what they say they do. Golf, casting, same in both. They are not lying per se, but their perception is in error.
