Re: Recent FP from Paul
That’s odd your loops are tighter with the 8 than the 4. I probably had less like carry (I measured to a target not down a tape). It might be because you are 170ing. I’ll have to try that!

What’s particularly odd is I get 17.36s for the 7 compared to your 17.79 and 12.73s for the 4 compared to your 19.42. Were you trying?

Re: Recent FP from Paul
If you call that 170ing we need a new definition for that technique
And loopsize are dependent on perspectieve...

Trying? I was yeeting the bloody thing! But it does raise the question of you maybe using a much much shorter line for the 4 weight did you mark the lines?

Re: Recent FP from Paul
Same length but I’ll redo it in the morning to double check. I get a huge difference in line speed and it’s throughout the ranges. You can see it on the shots too with the loops tighter and faster. But I’ll redo it in the morning; will have to film myself. Loops should be like chisels on the 4.

Re: Recent FP from Paul
Dude, just rewatched your clip, and it looks like you have like 9 meters of line form hauling hand to line end when you're doing your falsecasting, I had 16...
Looking forward to hear what tomorrow brings
Cheers

Re: Recent FP from Paul
It’s a weird line. Green tip, orange mid and green running line. I have no idea what it is. Lars sent it! I know it’s a 4WT however. I don’t know how many metres but I know they were the same length. I’ll use the DT4 tomorrow.
I’m staggered you don’t find a difference in speed. I would never have expected that.
Cheers, Paul

Re: Recent FP from Paul
Thinking about it, it might be the length. I’ll try a few different carry lengths.

Re: Recent FP from Paul
Both my lines where SA trout lines, so you're saying you used a MED7 and a unknown 4? And even if the lengths where the same, it did look like you had a much shorter line than what I used. Measure out 16 meters from tip of line to hauling hand (excluding leader of course!) And time 10 falsecasts again. I'll give it another shot as soon as possible, with a shorter length of line.
I'm not too surpriced, but I do recognice the feeling of more speed when switching from heavy to light, but I suspect it might just be a jedi mind trick rather than an actual increase. Need more tests to be conclusive
Cheers

Re: Recent FP from Paul
I think if it feels faster it is faster. There are a few possibilities here but I suspect that what happens is that over distance the lighter line is less efficient through the air and despite starting fast quickly runs out of steam. I’ll film 8, 12 and 16m. Will just have some jungle juice and then climb on the roof. Hopefully this works otherwise I’m going to have to rewrite my front page
