Question. Why is it called “stopless?” I probably could find the reason deep in the board, but I’m being lazy.

Because it's painful getting flies out of spruce trees.

Hi Carol,

“Stopless” is a way of differentiating the stop from the more conventional “abrupt stop”. Instead of stopping the rod with a squeeze when you would normally stop to form a loop, you keep rotating until the rod is pointing to the target. There is abrupt muscle contractions, just a release, like smoothly throwing a ball.

I teach essentially four “stops”. Hard/abrupt stop, pull-back (reverse torque), torque twist and “stopless”. Stopless really came about from 5WT distance, but it also makes great into-the-wind shots, tip down, on the water, high line speed.

Have a look at the comp distance video on this page https://www.sexyloops.com/flycast/compe ... ance-cast/

Cheers, Paul
It's an exploration; bring a flyrod.

Traditionally, people think others don't know how to end a movement, and thus teach something they call "stop" most because they think the rod is giant spring and works by loading it, and then stopping hard so the spring can unload and send the line of to the horizon 😉

Stopless refers to just going straight through those points, often named 1, 1.30 or 2 o'clock while sending of the line at great velocity😉

Hi Carol,

What I would add about stopless is that you can generate a much higher velocity than simply trying to slam on the anchors with a more conventional stroke V. It's kind of like sprinting over a finish line, you can achieve a greater velocity if you go flat out through it rather than worrying about stopping abruptly an inch after it.

All the best

Based on this thread, I bought one of these lines (already had a yarn rod from TFO). Best $20 I’ve spent in a while. It dramatically magnifies hauling and tracking flaws. In particular it is unforgiving of even momentary tension loss. I found a number of areas to work on of which I’d been unaware.

Great casting @Nick M!

@Lasse is the double haul kit available separate from the rod?

Thank you, Andrew

Hi John

Any Echo dealer can get it, if they haven't already got it on stock.
