Jungle fig

Hi flytyers! I need to tie up some jungle fig patterns for big gourami. They float. I was thinking of hanging the hook off the bottom with the line going through the fig pattern. If I painted a squash ball this might be perfect. Hell I could just paint a bubble float! Either that or tie a really big glo-bug!

Cheers, Paul

I imagine it would be very difficult to cast.
You could simply put a hook in it and use it as bait.

I always thought that flies were copies of living things.

There are lots of weed flies and so on. Spun deer hair would be very easy to cast I think.

Sticking a fig on the hook is not fly fishing, Pete :p

You'd have to tie it to the hook with silk thread for it to be fly fishing...

Hi Paul.

Check out vimeo for a short film called Thai one on. Its about golden mahseer fishery in nth thailand. The 'cherrybomb' fly is what you are looking for...but in the film they come up with a pretty neat alternative!
A perfectly laid down 60 foot cast will catch more fish than casting to the backing knot on your 120' fly line...particularly when most times you'll just throw an 80 foot 'wiggle cast'.

I'm seeing one of those huge NZ Tongariro strike indicators in red with a hook a couple inches below.

Or maybe spun deer hair ?
