Here are the results on one of Paul's casts where he was carrying about 90 feet of line.
Image

His peak haul speed was about 96 ms before RSP1 and the maximum acceleration of the haul was about 20 ms before MAV.
Image

The peak of his haul speed was closer to MAV than it was to RSP1.

Yes I'm going to mark up the line with a small bobble. Only then will I believe it :p

Gordy,

Is it possible to look at the actually line speed relative to the first guide on the rod? I can't help thinking something is missing from this analysis because the caster (Paul) is moving forwards and that first guide is really moving along. If the whole system is like a pulley moving the fly forward, we need to know the forward velocity of the pulley (the rod) and the velocity of the line being pulled through it.

It should be fairly simple to measure the distance between the line hand and the guide, and it wouldn't be too difficult to mark the line near the tip to see how fast it's moving at the same time.

cheers,
Graeme

I agree. I originally thought that's what was being measured. But if that's not what's being measured then it needs to be. There will be an error because of the angle made to the camera, especially so in the backcast, which is why I'd like to find a way of marking the line with a little orange bobble :)

This is exactly what Gordy measured as far as I know, he will tell us soon.
