Thanks Paul. This is my first year fishing stillwater and your articles have been a great help.
I have found spring not as consistent as summer and autumn and I'm piecing things together - practice vs theory.
Appreciate the advice and tips.

Rowch,
just a very old fashioned suggestion ,but for still water my "bible" is Arthur Coves ,My way with Trout ,.
i know its a 1986 published book ,but feeding trout have not changed that much ,and his methods and patterns with a few variations are the backbone of how I fish .

I would double that. Arthur Cove’s book was hugely influential on my approach to Stillwater fishing. We’ve added a few methods since then - Stillwater dry for example in ‘86 was just in its infancy. But as an approach to Stillwater fly fishing you wont find a better book.
Cheers, Paul
