They have a similar dress code here in Malaysian government offices. No shorts and no sandals. And it’s been very useful. I find people coming to my lessons as much for the fashion advice as the casting. I’m often asked “what colour wellingtons go best with these waterproof trousers?” And “should my hat match my socks?” We are fashion gurus and the FFFE realised this after meeting me.

Well, I was told of for doing a not static enough version once, then filmed a very nonstatic passing one a month later, so there's that....

Had a few throws at lunchtime today using the Rio SH Spey line.

I can confirm that Lasse's suggestion of having just the right amount of overhang works for me, but I'm still quite unimpressed by the hauled roll cast in general. Yes, I can reach 55' by shooting line to the distance after the haul, but I can still shoot the same cast further and with better form without the haul.

More practice required ...

Former FFFE and EFFA asked for the line hanging down the tip for at least one second (or more). Pulling the line back it should never leave the water at any point.
Inconsistancies in examinations took place like in all organisations of course...

About the video: 25m beach to plank. That cast was easily 20m.

P.s. Tighest loop I think to have seen was done by Vic Knight (remember Paul). That was without hauling.

Assuming that you start casting the D-loop with overhang of the same length as the haul, then the increase in line speed created by the haul should allow you to shoot more line.

No, since you have less line in the D. The apex will be closer to the tip. If in the moment your line hangs down the tip, you'll have overhang outside the tip, the line end (leader) will be closer in front of you. That means you automatically shorten the D by hauling. The only way to avoid this is to start with no overhang and the create overhang during the stroke. You'd call that slide, I guess? Not too easy though. Needs practise!
