Progressive rod?

#1

Post by Carlos »

Hi there,

please, how is the curve of a progressive rod?

What is the expected influence of a progressive curve on the cast?

Thanks in advance

Good question Carlos.
Looking forward to the replies.
I used to think that it is a rod that bends gradually to the butt as you increase de load on the tip.
However. With this definition I can bend every rod progressivly, depending on the arc I am bending it in.
So, I don’t know the answer.

Cheers, Bart

I'm with you, Bart! The above definition is the one I've always heard, which makes every rod progressive as I've yet to try a rod that doesn't bend more and more, the more I "load" it. Now put "load" in your pipe and smoke it :-).

A progressive rod is a rod that wants equality, healthcare for all, etc. And it brews a mean cuppa 😉

I’d buy that rod Lasse. Mainly for the cuppa. 👍

I knew there was a reason I didn’t like the Guideline Reactionary range...

Here Tim Rajeff explains and show how rod span change depending rod action. Tip action rod allows us to use wider casting stroke because its span shortens more wihout tip "lagging behind" too much so line acceleration efficiency is better.

It means different things to different people. I think all rods are progressive apart from rigid ones! However mostly there are assumed three actions, tip, progressive and butt. Tip would have a softer tip and relatively stiff lower 2/3rds, butt action the reverse of this and progressive inbetween.

Very very generalised. SP+ we would have called tip Acton. I’ve cast Cane rods that would certainly be considered butt action (also others being tip action too). HT rods I consider progressive. Erm “fast progressive” :D

It's an exploration; bring a flyrod.

I had to retire my progressive rod - it point blank refused to harm any fish and then refused to be bullied into casting more than 72ft.

Cuppa? Tea or coffee? It'll have a bearing on my decision to buy or not :-).
