Adding 1 more. This is the same as the previous run with the addition of constant upward translation motion of 1 m/s. This time peak speed is reached after 0.5 seconds (rod has rotated 45 degrees).

Just to make sure I’m reading that correctly the rotation rate of the rod goes from 0 to 16 radians/sec (roughly 150 rpm) in just over .2 seconds?

Correct Walter. That is about 900 deg/s in a very short time, typical of a competition cast.

This is just preliminary since I've only used a single stage acceleration, and had to guess some of the angles and acceleration rates so you can see that haul distance is excessive but here is what I get for the period from 0.6 seconds to 0.9 seconds in that cast.

I made some adjustments to the acceleration profiles to get something a bit more realistic wrt hauling distance. Here is the result.

The translation speed, like others, is the absolute speed (along the path). In this case the path is nearly horizontal:

The important point is the timing of events:
translation peak speed at 0.792 s
rotation peak speed at 0.834 s
haul peak speed at 0.871 s
line hand peak speed at 0.896 s
