I received this question today and never having read a book on SW fishing I don’t know where to start. Maybe Morsie’s “big flies and how to fish them”?
Thanks,
Paul
I live in SW WA in Margaret River, down here saltwater fishing would have to be the way to go.
Recon I need to do a bit of reading up before I run any more gear.
Can you recommend a good author for a saltwater fly fishing read?
Kreh’s Fly Fishing in Saltwater is a great starting point.
Chico Fernandez’s Fly Fishing for Bonefish is excellent, as are Kaufmann’s and Dick Brown’s books on the same subject.
For information on fishing beaches Lou Tabory’s Stripers on the Fly contains loads of practical how to information that would be applicable anywhere for any species. His Inshore Flyfishing is also good.
For fishing estuaries, Ken Abrame’s Striper Moon is an inspirational read.
For sight fishing areas other than bonefish flats Alan Caolo’s Sight Fishing for Striped Bass is very helpful.
Obviously none of this is specific for Australia but the information and techniques described are applicable anywhere and all these guys were/are accomplished fishermen. There is advice better ignored as well.
Tabory is a fan of heavy fly lines, Caolo advocates cutting off front tapers, and Abrames has little use for anything but floating lines.
